INTELLECT®- SST (Software Security Token)
Overview:
A software token is a type of two-factor authentication security device that may be used to authorize the use of computer services. Software tokens are stored on a general-purpose electronic device such as a desktop computer, laptop, PDA, mobile phone, or a server. This is in contrast to hardware tokens, where the credentials are stored on a dedicated hardware device. Software tokens are considered to be weaker than hardware tokens, as they are exposed to threats such as computer viruses and software attacks. However, the software token does have benefits:
§ There is no physical token to carry.
§ They do not contain batteries that will run out.
§ They will not malfunction if improperly dropped.
§ They are cheaper than hardware tokens.
How does it work?
§ The user will open the system login screen.
§ The user will click “Login” button.
§ The user will enter the username and password.
§ When the user is authenticated, the system sends a unique “Security Code” through SMS to the user’s mobile where the “Security Code” will only be valid for one login or will expire in 60 minutes if not used.
§ The user will be asked in the second screen to enter the received “Security Code” to login to the system.
